  • The role of the Middle School Graduation Coach (MSGC) is to identify students who are at risk of dropping out and to connect them to needed services to prevent that from happening. The students whom the Coach will be working with will be identified by the state DOE as well as through the GCPS SASI system. Identification of students will be done using student achievement data, perception data, and demographic data.

  • Drop-out Prevention Counseling– targets the most urgent cases first: retained 8th graders, students 16 years and older who are considering dropping out, and transition 7/8th graders.

  • Individual and group counseling with at-risk students in areas of educational,  career, or personal goals.

  • Work with assigned grade level counselor to provide comprehensive, yet individualized counseling program. Report to GA DOE as required on students’ and program’s progress.

  • Connect individual students and their parents/guardians with community organizations and programs, such as Communities in Schools, GA 411, and local mentoring programs.
