The role of the
Middle School Graduation Coach (MSGC) is to identify students who are at
risk of dropping out and to connect them to needed services to prevent that
from happening. The students whom the Coach will be working with will be
identified by the state DOE as well as through the GCPS SASI system.
Identification of students will be done using student achievement data,
perception data, and demographic data.

Drop-out
Prevention Counseling– targets the most urgent cases first: retained 8th
graders, students 16 years and older who are considering dropping out, and
transition 7/8th graders.

Individual and
group counseling with at-risk students in areas of educational, career, or
personal goals.

Work with
assigned grade level counselor to provide comprehensive, yet individualized
counseling program. Report to GA DOE as required on students’ and program’s
progress.

Connect
individual students and their parents/guardians with community organizations
and programs, such as Communities in Schools, GA 411, and local mentoring
programs.
