Suggestions for Students to Achieve Academically In Middle School

1.     Be on time for school each morning and make sure you are prepared for class. Pack your book bag the night before and have it ready for the morning.

2.     Eat a well balanced breakfast each morning. Make sure you have some protein to jump start your brain for learning. 

3.     Complete your homework each night. Organize your notebook every day and put your homework in the appropriate place.

4.     Keep up with your agenda book every day. Write what your teacher tells you to write in your book. Read your book in the evening, and then check off your assignments as you complete them. Show your parents your completed homework.

5.     Go to the Gwinnett County Public Library website at www.gwinnettpl.org for free help online from real tutors when you need homework help.

6.     Attend Early Morning Help Sessions to get tutoring from your teachers. Each Tuesday help with Math and Social Studies is offered. Each Wednesday help with Language Arts and Science is offered. Get in the habit of attending each week if you have a low grade in a certain subject.

7.     Study for tests and quizzes. Try not to wait until the night before a test to cram in studying. Start to study two or three days before a test. Review the material each day.

8.     Ask your teachers for help when you do not understand something. Ask your teachers for advice if you are not doing well in your classes. This lets teachers know you care about doing well and are being responsible. Come up with a plan of action if you are failing a subject with your parents and teachers. 

9.     Give your best effort to class work and homework. Turn in your assignments on time. If something happens and your work does not get turned in, ask your teacher if you can get partial credit on late work.

10.   Make sure you are taking care of your mind and body. Eat healthy foods, get daily exercise, get plenty of rest, and play a little each day.
