A browser is a software program written specifically to enable users to easily navigate the Internet. Before browsers, users had to choose from menus or type a variety of commands to search the Internet. With the invention of browsers came the use of hypertext links. These colorful links made surfing the Internet very easy.

Today the most popular browser is NetScape with approximately 80% of all users using some version of NetScape's browser. The remaining users use Microsoft's Internet Explorer to surf the Internet.
