How I did it: Having a burning desire to own my own business, and with the opportunity, I was able to prepare a viable business plan to purchase this business from the original owner. Hard work and the right personnel have made it succeed.

My best advice: Develop a steady persistence in a course of action, have a strong work ethic and display a great attitude in any endeavor that you may undertake. Be a visionary and try to anticipate solutions to problems before they occur.

How I did it: An insatiable appetite for knowledge. Learning how to learn has been the most important element for me. I found I could learn how to do just about anything I set my mind to, and then, I put fear aside and took action.

My best advice: Challenge yourself to learn new things all the time. Get outside your normal circles and learn from people and businesses that are different from you. Then, most importantly, apply what you learn in a practical way.

How I did it: Treating both employees and customers with respect and integrity. Lots of hard work and extreme motivation to work through issues, while helping your team grow and become successful in new experiences.

How I did it: Forming the right relationships, working extremely hard and helping the people I work with get what they want. I've always been willing to take a risk and "see" the end result of what I've wanted to accomplish.

My best advice: You have to get started. You have to see the end result in your head and see yourself as part of that goal. Once that happens, you'll see the path to get to that goal.

http://www.keyfp.com/

THE STORY: Jay Grubb became a businessman at 21 and was mentored by his grandfather, one of Gwinnett County's first real estate developers. Grubb decided to make it his personal mission to educate and assist individuals and businesses in planning their estates and retirement.

How I did it: By specializing in satisfying the unique financial and retirement planning needs of high net worth individuals, business owners, entertainers and professional athletes. I take a personal interest in each of my client's unique financial situations, customizing a plan to meet their needs.

My best advice: My grandfather told me when I was young, "There are two paths you can take in life, the road most take and the road less traveled." The road less traveled is what I took and the reason for my success.
