SIXTH GRADE:

    In sixth grade we focus on  understanding  the elements of art and how they can be used for artistic expression.  Students develop drawing skills using perspective and other space techniques.  They experiment with a variety of media and techniques.  See AKS below.

ACADEMIC KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

    CREATION AND PERFORMANCE:

  • produce artwork to emphasize the art elements

  • demonstrate understanding of the use of art elements and principles for creating art

  • demonstrate proper care and safety with art tools and materials

  • explore the creation of art using computer technology

   PERCEPTION AND ANALYSIS

  • identify the elements  of design in  artworks and the environment

  • explore the process of critical analysis of art

  • identify media in works of art

  • identify the function of art when present

  • explore the properties of color

  • describe how elements and principles are used to affect the mood or expressive content of artworks

  • explore relationships between visual arts and other disciplines

   CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL CONTEXT

  • explore various art techniques and styles of different cultures

  • explore the creation of art through historical events and contemporary developments

 

 

SEVENTH GRADE:

    Seventh graders  focus on individual artists and the media and techniques they use.  The elements of art and principles of design are emphasized.  Artistic expression, problem solving, and critical thinking are encouraged. See AKS below.

  • create artworks from visual memories and imagination

  • produce art using using principles and elements of art in various types of media and techniques

  • demonstrate proper care and safe use of  tools and materials

  • explore the creation of art using computer technology

    PERCEPTION AND ANALYSIS

  • identify  the elements and principles of design in 2D and 3D artworks

  • explore the relationship among elements and principles of design in artworks

  • use artistic vocabulary in describing artworks

  • explore the process of  critical analysis of art (description, analysis, and judgment)

    CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL CONTEXT

  • explore the unique styles of different cultures and time periods

  • explore artists of various  historical periods

  • explore the conceptual relationships among visual art, music, drama, and dance in various stylistic periods

 

 

EIGHTH GRADE

    Eighth graders work with the principles of design to explore the critical thinking that is involved in producing art.  Students are encouraged to look closer at artworks and to use art criticism to judge other's and their own artwork.  Students work individually and in groups to critique.  In addition, students explore various media and techniques as they study artists and art movements history.  See AKS:

  • produce artworks using a variety of materials and techniques utilizing art elements of principles of design

  • identify and describe the elements and principles of design in works of art and in the environment

  • explore the various art forms and techniques an artist might select to produce 2D and 3D artworks

  • engage in critical analysis (description, analysis, and judgment) of artworks

    CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL CONTEXT

  • identify the career opportunities for artists

  • explore artists and philosophies of art from historical and contemporary periods

  • explore the conceptual relationships among visual art, music, drama, and dance in various stylistic periods

 

 

ART CLUB:

   Art Club is open to all students.  We meet the first Thursday of each month from four until five p.m. in the art room.  Please see Mrs. Gilpin or Mrs. LeMaster for an agenda of the year's activities.
